|About Cottages in Swaledale|
As a family run business we have two holiday cottages and a shepherds hut in beautiful Swaledale. After holidaying for over 10 years in the Yorkshire Dales we loved it so much that we decided to move here. We are now lucky enough to call Swaledale our home.
Nurse Cherry Cottage is a two bedroom, self catering, stone built holiday cottage situated in Reeth, Swaledale. It offers every home comfort, having the charm of an old cottage with all the modern conveniences of a new one.
It is situated on a quiet back lane but within two minutes walk to the village green and all it's amenities.
The cottage has been awarded a four star gold from Quality in Tourism. It is perfect for families, couples and friends.
The fully modernised shaker style kitchen has a cooker, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and freezer. There is a large separate utility room housing the washing machine/tumble dryer/Sheila Maid. Plus there is ample space for bikes if needed and lots of hooks for coats and racks for muddy boots!!! The large lounge has two sofas, a flatscreen tv, dvd player, cd/radio, wi-fi and a docking station. A lovely open fire offers those cosy winter evenings in. There are plenty of toys, games, books, walks and maps to peruse.
There are two bedrooms both with quality white bedding and original old pine wardrobes and drawers. Both rooms have lovely views from the windows. One of the bedrooms has twin beds and the other a king size bed. We do provide a cot and highchair if needed although we don't provide cot bedding.
The lovely cottage garden is a real sun trap and a great place to sit and enjoy reading a book and listen to the birds. There's a table and chairs for al-fresco dining or deckchairs and benches for catching the rays!! A portable bbq is available too for cooking the locally made sausages!
The Village green and all its' amenities including the pubs, tea rooms, post office, newsagents, tourist office, ice-cream parlour, bakery, pottery, apple orchard, church and general store are only a two minute stroll from the cottage as is the local bus stop in case you don't want to drive. The river is only a ten minute walk away as are many other different walks, you really don't need your car once you arrive at the cottage, making Reeth an ideal centre for exploring all the Dales have to offer.
Billy Gills cottage is named after William Gill who had the buildings in his family for over 100 years and spent its life as a drapers/outfitters. It's the ideal self-catering holiday cottage situated in Swaledale.
We have recently renovated this lovely cottage to provide luxury accommodation for couples. It's ideal if you want a romatic break or just somewhere to come and relax. The views are breathtaking from the south facing windows and private patio area. The scenery is forever changing, wildlife in abundance, peace and tranquility. It's everything you could wish for.
Billy Gill's Cottage situated in Low Row is a one bedroom luxury cottage ideal for couples. Low Row is a beautiful Dales village which is fabulous for walking and admiring the scenery.
The Punch Bowl pub provides wonderful food and is a 5 minute walk from the cottage. Further shops, pubs and cafes can be found in Reeth, four miles away.
The first floor comprises of an open plan kitchen with lounge area and a separate utility room with toilet/sink and washing machine area. The beautiful hand made kitchen, oak parquet flooring, large sofa and wood burner incorporating an oven makes for a wonderful cosy retreat. We particularly enjoyed choosing all the individual items to make this a really special place to remember.
The solid oak staircase leads down to two doors, one opening out to a sunny patio area with far reaching views of Swaledale. Chairs, table and bbq/fire provides a space for alfresco dining. The other door leads to a beautiful bright bedroom with luxury king size bed. A large double ended bath sits in the bedroom with a separate ensuite comprising of toilet, sink and large rainfall shower.
Our shepherds hut is located in a secluded location with far reaching views of the valley. The shepherds hut, built by The Yorkshire Hut Company, has one bedroom and comprises of a kitchen, bathroom and wood burning stove. It's located in an idyllic private position in Low Row, with views to the river swale. There is a short walk on a steep slope to get to the hut, however we're sure you'll agree it's worth the effort for the privacy and views. Parking is on the gravelled drive at the top. We've loved creating this idyllic getaway for two.
The feelings of been a child again making dens and wanting to sleep outside have all been fulfilled (be it a little more luxurious!). The wildlife is in abundance, the curlews, Canadian geese, kingfishers, herons, rabbits and deer can all be seen. The night skies when clear, are filled with stars and the owls hoot all adds to a magical experience. The cosy hut with oak flooring and underfloor heating also has a cute woodburning stove making the hut a great place to stay whatever the season. The kingsize bed with luxury bed linen ensures a great nights sleep. Windows look out to the hills beyond and the ever changing scenery, lie in bed looking at the moon and stars, hear the birds singing and the owls hoot.
The kitchenette comprises of an induction hob and a microwave, sink and all the usual kitchen items to create a comfortable stay. The fold down oak table allows you to have breakfast with a view, the comfy chairs with their sheepskin throws are so relaxing, you may not want to venture out. The books, walking guides, cards, dominoes and Roberts radio provide further relaxation. The ensuite bathroom has a full size shower, sink and loo with luxury soaps. We searched all over to find unique and quirky items to make this hut a really memorable place to stay.
We look forward to welcoming you to this wonderful area soon.
Swaledale is one of the major valleys of the Yorkshire Dales. It remains relatively unchanged and with no disrespect to the other Dales is particularly special. Throughout its length the dale remains steep sided and loses little grandeur. Swaledale's collection of idyllic villages include Low Row, Reeth, Keld, Thwaite, Muker, Gunnerside. Patchwork fields are filled with barns, wild flower meadows and huddles of stone cottages.
Swaledale's varied walking leads from meadows to moors, waterfalls and idyllic riverbanks teaming with wildlife. An intense concentration of 19th century lead mining remains ,feature at almost every corner and England's highest pub The Tan Hill sits amid old coal mines. This region is home to some of Yorkshire's best walking and cycling. When it comes to beauty, peace and tranquility, Swaledale has it all.
There's so much to do in this area, castles, museums, concerts, mountain bike festivals, climbing, cycling, walking, fishing, craft shops, local cuisine for fine dining, tea rooms with scrummy cakes. It's great to step out of the fast lane, slow down and enjoy Swaledale in Yorkshire.
