About Penny Black Cottage | |||
![]() Penny Black is a romantic, pretty, traditional two up, two down stone built boutique cottage. She is over 240 years old and has been sympathetically refurbished to retain her period charm and character whilst being complemented by modern facilities. She has been awarded Visit England Three Star Gold grading. Penny Black is a self-catering cottage with towels, tea towels, bed linen, toilet rolls and fuel included in the cost of your holiday. She offers short breaks as well as full week holidays. Penny Black accepts clean, well behaved dogs and their owners, she has a cosy wood burner, private off road parking and an enclosed country garden enjoying far reaching views of surrounding countryside. Penny Black sits on the route of the Westhouse Walks and is close to the famous Ingleton Water Falls. She is conveniently situated for the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge which includes Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent mountains. Within a mile of Penny, you will find riverside walks, horse riding, cycle tracks, mountain climbs, caving and cross-country walks. There are walks for all ages and abilities.
Ingleton is a bustling, lively community spirited, welcoming village, hosting many special events throughout the year including the annual Ingleton 40's weekend in early July, the Folk weekend in October and the Overground/Underground Festival which runs from May to September with a plethora of activities and entertainment ranging from walking/climbing/cycling events to art/craft/music sessions. The heated Outdoor Swimming Pool is open during the summer months and is well worth a visit. Keen cyclists can enjoy the miles of country lanes and off road tracks - cycle hire is available at Escape Bike Shop, just a few hundred metres from the cottage. There is safe, secure lockable storage within the cottage garden. At Kirkby Lonsdale, approximately six miles up the road, there is Devil's bridge, Ruskin's View point and more fabulous individual shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs. Most of these are dog friendly. The Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and Lancashire's Forest of Bowland are all within a 30 minute drive from Penny Black Cottage. |
